Basel Abbas

Arabic, Iraqi. Broadcast journalist, authoritative, friendly.

A freelance Arabic voiceover, translator and interpreter from Iraq, Basel has wide-ranging broadcast television experience.  He has been responsible for the supervision of television and video production for many clients, including the BBC (especially Newsnight), The International Monetary Fund, The British Red Cross, Amnesty International, Food and Agriculture Organisation, Department of Education, Saudi Cable Company, BP, Hilton Hotels, Virgin, Gillette and many others.

He is London-based reporter for many Arabic TV stations and has worked for Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiyya, as well as Tunisian, Saudi and Omani satellite channels.  He has also worked as Bulletin Editor for Arab News Network London and producer for Associated Press Television News.

Basel was one of the first eight Arab journalists who took part in establishing the BBC’s Arabic Satellite Television Channel, working as a broadcast journalist. He has extensive translation experience, translating speeches and scripts from Arabic into English, sometimes simultaneously.

He has also worked as a journalist and writer for many leading Arabic language magazines, Sawt Al Kuwait and Al Arab newspapers and Arab Gulf Publishing Company.
